Fred C. Koch began his ranching endeavors in 1941, acquiring land in efforts to establish a working cattle ranch. By 1952 the Matador Cattle Company was formed and well on it’s way to becoming a historic brand. Today, operations consist of ranches in Texas, Kansas, and Montana totaling more than 460,000 acres, supporting more than 12,000 head of cattle, and home to multiple ranching families. Cross Timbers has had the privilege to work with Matador Cattle Company on multiple projects to design and develop various marketing initiatives, as well as experience the Matador ranch operations up close and in person.
